ASEAN-OSHNET (Association of South East Asia Nations-Occupational Safety and Health Network)



ASEAN- OSHNET is a regional Network for co-operation and co-ordination the occupationalsafety and health Activities in South East Nations. Myanmar, a member country of ASEAN is participating in net work since the Director General of Department of Factories and General Labour Laws Inspection of Ministry of Labour , on behalf of Myanmar signed the Memorandum Of Understanding in the Establishment of ASEAN- Occupational Safety and Health Network ( ASEAN- OSHNET) in August 2000 together with the other member countries of ASEAN.


Myanmar on the Implementation of the Activities of ASEAN-OSHNET Plan of Action;

In accordance with the agreement of M.O.U , The ASEAN-OSHNET has been undertaking activities related to occupational safety and health of workers in the member countries under the five programme areas. There were assigned the following countries as co-ordinator in respective areas

- Thailand for Information

            - Philippines for training

            - Indonesia for research

            - Malaysia for Standard

            - Singapore for Inspection

Myanmar has been undertaking the activities on cooperation with ASEAN-OSHNET countries to the best of its ability. Below are brief accounts of the status of OSHNET activities according to the above mentioned programme areas, being undertaking by the department of Factories and General Laws Inspection in Myanmar which is the focal point responsible for implementation of ASEAN-OSHNET activities.


Information

Thailand , the coordinator in the information area have requested member countries to develop national homepages and participate AO-MAIL (ASEAN-OSHNET intramail) . Myanmar sent two participants to the workshop on Computer-Based NETWORK for ASEAN-OSHNET held in Indonesia from 17 to 19 September 2002and received two set of personnel computer . Myanmar have since established internet connection through Bagan Net and Myanmar Post and Telecommunication Enterprise the Myanmar internet service provider. Being available internet access and informational books and documents on FGLLID, question regarding OSH raised by Occupier, Manager and workers on factories are being solved.


Training

Philippines is the co-ordinator for the Programme Area of Training. There are several Training Programs being implemented with the assistant of Dialogue Partners as well as some of the ASEAN countries themselves under cost sharing basis. All the Training Programs have been very Useful for training of personnel from the Ministry of Labour in Occupational Safety and Health.

Below are brief accounts of training and workshop regarding OSH attended from FGLLID personnel.

3. Safety & Health Officers Training Course held in Malaysia 1 no
4. Forklift Safety Course held in Malaysia 1 no



Research  

Myanmar has not been to participate in the research programme of the ASEAN-OSHNET due to circumstances. However , it is hoped that with the introduction of new research projects under the Research Programme area in future , Myanmar could ,if resources and expertise within the country permits. participate in such projects.

Standards

Myanmar sent two participate to the Workshop on Formulation of ASEAN Guidelines on Classification , Labeling and Packaging (CLP) of Hazardous Chemicals , convened from 6 to March , 2006 in Malaysia.

Inspection

Myanmar sent two participants each to the workshop Inspection policy for Workshop Safety and Health held in Singapore from 8 to 9 February 2006 and the Workshop on the Inspection Dialogue of the Occupational Safety and Health in Singapore , January 2007 .
